Wk 10- Art Experience

Instagram is a social media app that I probably use the most. I am constantly debating if my pictures are Instagram worthy or should tweeted. I decided to make a separate Instagram for this because of how picky I am with my normal Instagram. I think Instagram has become an application where people show people the best and most worthy aspects of their lives. It creates an idea that a person is actually way cooler or better looking than in real life. It has become a place where you create a life for yourself of things that you want people to see you doing. It is almost its own culture. Trying to create and perfect that perfect picture where you go. It makes us have this need to show people what we are doing. This art experience and giant class selfie made me realize how much we care about what our followers and other people think of us. Everyone I know in the class created a separate account us because we didn’t want our followers to see us on a normal day of class posting pictures of what we do on a normal day of live. After this project I realized that my online followers should not be my priority. My priority should be real relationships in my life and how I make those people feel.

Happy Instagraming!

Wk 10-Classmate Conversation

This week I talked to Jaime. She is from San Ramon in the Bay Area. She is currently in her second year of school and loves pasta especially raviolis. Her favorite quality about her best friend is that she really doesn’t think she can pick one she is just all around amazing. Disneyland is her favorite place to visit and could go there all the time. Her biggest fear is dying alone. It was really nice to meet Jaime and I also found out she is also in the greek system.

Artist:Sean Joy

Exhibition:All Work All Play

Media:copper and silver(metals)

Gallery:CSULB School of Art, Werby Gallery

Website:no website

Instagram:personal instagram only, no art instagram

About the Artist:

Sean Joy is finishing up her last semester here at Long Beach State and working towards her degree in the School of Art’s Metal program. This was her first art show at Long Beach. Sean grew up in Los Angeles but has since moved to Long Beach. She loves cats and enjoyed living in the dorms for two years. She stated that she likes to include humor into her work but also play off of her emotions.

Formal Analysis:

Sean’s pieces were very unique and mostly made of some sort of metal. Her pieces were not necessarily useful but more dramatic and there for art purposes. All were in metal tones and some were smooth while others were ruff. She played off basic ideas and took them to a whole new level.

Content Analysis:

Sean creates her own inspiration and believes she can’t just wait to be inspired. She uses a mix of her emotions and humor to create her artwork and loves being able to use metal. She is uses in the moment inspiration and has a large sense of patience for metal work.

Synthesis:

I think the art was very different this week and you could see her humorous side in pieces like the one of male body parts. I believe she was inspiring to students in the way that she talked. She talked about how much patience, perseverance, and acceptance were all needed through out her college career.

Kain

Here on the Moonbase Alpha Kain was born into a family of perfectly. She was the most beautiful in all the land and all the girls were jealous. One day they tried to all gang up against her and kill her. The prince Oliver came and saved her with his bow and arrow. All the girls were locked into a jail and forbidden from the land for life.

The girls that hated her:

This week I talked to Haley Anderson, a pre-nrusing major. She is a second year at Long Beach and lives off campus. All the trees around Long Beach makes her really happy and love the city. The people of Long Beach are very nice and chill and she really likes that. She is also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority since Fall 14. She is left handed and never been out of the country. Her favorite food is chicken nuggets and steaks.

Wk 8- Art Experience

I forced my roommate to do this art experience with me by bribing her with In-N-Out. You would think with 25 roommates this would have been an easier task. While sitting there in silence we couldn’t help but to laugh and giggle. I think the actual drawing explains out relationship very well. Loud, sharp, and clear lines showing how my need for control and her relaxed attitude played off each other.

WK 8- Classmate Conversation

Daniel Bursch, or better known as Jackson, as become one of my close friends this semester because of this class. Jackson is in the greek system just like me and we actually went to the basketball game together this weekend. He let me use his phone charge, so he is the real homie. Jackson traveled to Europe this winter break and met up with one of my friends. I can’t wait to see where our friendship goes after this semester.

Artist: Brianna Joy

Exhibition: Merge

Media: sectioned hand-printed images, BFK printmaking paper, light sensitive emulsion stencils, water based ink screen with aluminum frames

Gallery: CSULB School of Art, Gatov Gallery East

Website: N/A

Instagram: @bri.joy

About the Artist:

Bri is a undergraduate at Long Beach State studying Printmaking. This is her final year. She enjoys being active and playing sports. She does yoga in her free time and snowboards, skateboards, and hiking. She moved to Long Beach from a very small town, which lead her to very much appreciate the outdoors.

Formal Analysis:

Most of Bri’s work is in black and white or neutral colors. She uses lines to create images. She uses negative and positive space in her work by only using black and white. All the lines seem to be continuous and flow together very well.

Content Analysis:

The title of the exhibit, Merge, explains her work and life meshing together. How her small town roots have collided with busy Long Beach. It shows her past to the present and how her life has changed but she still appreciated her past.

Synthesis:

This is the first exhibit I could actually see hanging in someone’s house. her work in clean and I really enjoyed it. She is diverse in the lines she chooses to use and I like her idea behind her pieces. Her past is present but not defining her.

For our video we touched on the topic of bullying and how you should do something if you see something.

I did this project with Daniel Bursch and Sean Herenadez.
